April 19, 2007

Long Range Planning Committee has been formed and the first meeting of the group was April 7th, 2008.

Another meeting has been scheduled for May 5th.

January 29, 2008

The Pastoral Council and Finance Council had a meeting with John Probst, Development Coordinator for “Diocese of Yakima Housing Services” and Fr. Robert Silar, from the Bishop’s office last Monday night.  This is their updated report:

  • The building has 40 units available for rent.  It is an independent living facility, not for those needing assisted living or nursing home care.  It will be for seniors, 62 years old and over, with Adjusted Gross Income under $19,950 for a married couple or under $17,450 for a single person. The expected completion date is July 2008.  There are already 78 applicants for the 40 units.
  • The diocese has subdivided the 5-Acre parcel into 5 lots, and has sold lot three (3) of this project for $200,000 to an independent non-profit corporation, called “Diocese of Yakima Housing Services”.  This corporation receives no funding from the Diocese of Yakima or Holy Family Parish, but receives grants from the state and federal government for low-income seniors.
  • Presently, Diocese of Yakima Housing Services, would like to purchase lot one (1) and two (2), right next to the Gathering Hall and driveway going out to 56th (see below for map/diagram) to build two more units.  John Probst reported that it would be another couple of years before they would be ready to proceed with these two parcels, and would also be subject to approval by the Diocese for the sale.
  • Other things under consideration by Housing Services:
    • Any expansion would be for senior housing, not low income families.
    • One of the new buildings could possibly be for assisted living.
    • Presently planning a building for their offices on lot 1or 5 next to 56th, but would need to purchase the property and find funding.

     Conclusions:
  • Holy Family needs to form a committee and develop a long-range site plan. That may possibly include the use of lots one (1) and two (2).  This would then help the Diocese, the Housing Services, and the parish to form a master plan.
  • The diocese will consider giving the parish a letter defining Holy Family Parish property that would be ‘held in trust’ for the parish.  Those boundaries would include the present church and parking lot, school, gym and parking on the north campus.
  • The future development and use of these two properties would continue to be the responsibility of the pastor/priest administrator of Holy Family in collaboration with the parish leadership groups and staff.
