Sacramental Preparation Processes & Policies
| Infant Baptism Preparation & Policies | (Children up through six years of age) The Holy Family community joyously welcomes our newest members through the Sacrament of Baptism administered during Sunday Mass or at other times by special arrangement. Parents need to make an appointment to meet with the Baptism coordinator. Parent(s) are required (and Godparents are strongly encouraged) to participate in two 2-hour classes prior to the baptism of their child. These meetings are designed to reach out to those expecting a child in the near future or to parents of infants ready for baptism and to discuss with them the Church's teaching about the sacrament so they will have a better understanding of the commitment they are making. The Baptism coordinator meets with the parents of infants to be baptized and/or expectant parents. The meetings are held approximately three times a year. The theology of Baptism is presented and discussion among the couples is encouraged. At least one parent must be Catholic or involved in the RCIA process. At least one sponsor must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. |
| First Communion And First Reconciliation | Since the Second Vatican Council states "parents are the primary educators of their children," the preparation for First Eucharist and First Reconciliation involves the parents, the child, and the community. The program utilizes both classroom preparation and family participation. Meetings are held to assist the parents in understanding their role in their child's preparation and provide an opportunity for parents to reflect on their own faith, and to grow in their understanding of the sacraments. |
| Christian Initiation--Older Children | Older children who have not been baptized or have not received Eucharist may be enrolled in the "Children's Catechumenate" Parents participate in this process. Other parish members or families may also be involved in a sponsoring or welcoming role. The specific needs of each individual child will be considered in designing the preparation for that child. (For information regarding Baptism of children under 7 years old, see "Infant Baptism".) |
| Confirmation | Preparation is offered each year for high school youth who are sophomores and older who are seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation. The process begins in the fall and the rite is in the spring after Easter. Confirmation preparation involves small group instruction and a retreat. A sponsor is needed and must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church. Call the parish for information. |
| Marriage Preparation | Because of the nature of the preparation and planning needed for the Sacrament of Marriage, engaged couples are asked to contact the parish office for an interview 12 months in advance of their proposed wedding date to increase chances for getting their preferred date. Preparation includes participation in a Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend, meetings with a parish priest and the parish music director. Other specific needs may be discussed in the meetings. |
| Wedding Hostesses | Your wedding day is very important to you and to the entire faith community. Holy Family provides the services of a wedding hostess to help you with many of those details that can add stress to the rehearsal and the big day. She will help guide you through doors, find you a safety pin, point people in the right direction as they arrive, answer questions and generally help all to remain calm and focused on what matters most: a prayerful sacramental celebration of your commitment. The hostess will get in touch with you a few weeks before the wedding. |
| Catholic Engaged Encounter | CEE is time invested in your future. It is a weekend where you will be given the freedom to talk honestly and deeply about your future together, away from daily pressures and interruptions. If you are serious about making your relationship the best it can be, you will benefit from Catholic Engaged Encounter. |
| RCIA - Rite Of Christian Initiation Of Adults | Recognizing that we as Catholics have something very special, we reach out to share our Church, our faith, our way of life with many who are searching for something to give meaning to life or looking for a church family to call their own. The goal of the parish in providing for the Christian initiation of adults is to apply the principles of conversion through opportunities for reflection, learning, prayer, increased community participation and liturgical celebrations. Each individual's personal journey will be respected and there will be on-going opportunities to begin the process, with periodic times for spiritual direction and discernment. "Inquiry" sessions are available, at different times of the year, to invite "searchers" to see if they can find meaning within the Catholic community. Members of the parish meet with these individuals weekly and also with "catechumens" (those who have made a formal decision to become Catholic) to share their faith and to journey with them. If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in attending "Inquiry" sessions, or if you would like to be a sponsor for someone who is becoming Catholic, please call the parish office. |
| Funerals | In the face of death, each family and our Church is called to proclaim the death and Resurrection of Jesus. It is a time of grace and faith renewal for all. The funeral rites of the parish must always reflect this dimension of faith and trust in eternal life. It is important that families visit with a priest so that the music, psalms, readings and general prayers are faith filled. Please call the office for arrangements. The Resurrection Choir provides music and a simple luncheon is available for a nominal fee. |
